Kyburz - Strawberry Area Campgrounds
Kyburz - Strawberry area campgrounds do not take reservations. Generally they are open around Memorial Day weekend through at least Labor Day Weekend. Bears are common around the campgrounds, so measures should be taken to keep food stored safely. Fees shown below are for 6 people and one vehicle. The fee for an additional vehicle is $7. Campgrounds in this area are about 40 miles east of Placerville.
Activities popular in the area are swimming (when water levels are safe), fishing, picnicking, and hiking. A popular hike is to the summit of Lovers Leap near Strawberry.
Along the banks of the South Fork of the American River on Highway 50 stands the historic Strawberry Lodge (shown below), once a stopping place for the Pony Express.
China Flat Campground
Located on Silver Fork Road, 4.5 miles southeast of Highway 50 near Kyburz. the campground is usually open between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend.
At 4,800 feet it has mild summer temperatures. Most campsites are well spaced out and there is easy access to the Silver Fork of the American River.

Lovers Leap Campground
Located along the American River and Highway 50 one half mile southeast of Strawberry Lodge. Usually open from May 15 to November 1. The campground is at 5,800 feet.

- 21 walk-in campsites for tents only, vault toilets, one faucet for piped water
- Picnic tables, some fire rings, some grills
- A favorite camp for rock climbers

Sand Flat Campground
Located on the south side of Highway 50 near the American River, 28 miles east of Placerville. It is at 3,900 feet, 2 miles west of Kyburz. The campground is usually open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.
Note that campgrounds with similar names are found in the Stanislaus National Forest.

Located 8 miles south of Kyburz on Silver Fork Road. The campground is usually open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. It is at 5,600 feet.
